Boscastle is a picturesque village and fishing port on the north coast of Cornwall. Boscastle's history dates back to the medieval period. The name "Boscastle" is derived from Bottreaux Castle, a 12th-century motte-and-bailey castle constructed by the Norman lord, Sir Hugh de Bottreaux. The South West Coast Path, which runs through Boscastle, is popular among hikers.On August 16, 2004, Boscastle experienced a devastating flash flood. Heavy rainfall caused rivers to swell, leading to severe flooding that swept through the village, causing extensive damage. Remarkably, despite the destruction, there were no fatalities. The flood brought the community together and led to a significant rebuilding effort. The village has since been restored, and measures have been implemented to reduce the risk of future flooding.Boscastle is home to several cultural attractions, including the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic, which houses an extensive collection of artifacts related to witchcraft, folklore, and the occult. The village also features historic buildings, such as the 16th-century Napoleon Inn and the medieval Boscastle Pottery. The area surrounding Boscastle is renowned for its natural beauty.
